Retailers cut supply chain costs as purchasing patterns change

Some retailers are laying off workers in distribution and fulfillment centers. Others are closing warehouses or delaying plans to open new facilities. Jonathan Ramsden, chief financial and administrative officer at Big Lots, which recently closed four distribution centers, said the chain had opened the warehouses during the pandemic “to support a period of high growth for our business. In the current economic environment we no longer need the additional capacity,”
