June 27, 2023

Taco John’s and Gregory’s Restaurant & Bar are fighting back against Taco Bell’s attempt to strip them of their “Taco Tuesdays” trademark. Taco Bell asserts that Taco Tuesdays is a common phrase and should no longer be trademarked. “We’re just hoping that the court can see through this marketing plan by Taco Bell,” said Greg Gregory, whose family owns Gregory’s.

Taco Tuesday Has Heated Up Even More

It’s almost crystal clear that Taco Bell has been vying for the ability to use the slogan “Taco Tuesday” and “Taco Tuesdays” in their marketing and social media for some time.

The Taco Bell company has gone so far as to file a lawsuit to cancel Taco John’s trademark. Taco Bell’s filed petition against their rival comes after 34 years of Taco John’s trademark has been in effect.

Early on, things look favorable for Taco Bell, but the trademark attorney on the case speculates that Taco John’s or Gregory Hotel (the trademark owner out of New Jersey), will not back down or settle, therefore, the case might take at least two years before coming to a decision.
