Whataburger Is Giving Away Free BOBs on October 10

October 9, 2024

Whataburger has announced that it is giving away free BOBs (that is, Breakfast On a Bun) on Thursday, Oct. 10.

A fresh egg, American cheese, and either bacon strips or a sausage patty make up Breakfast On a Bun. Fans adore this sandwich so much that they gave it a nickname since it’s a classic that cannot be beaten.

In a press release announcing the freebie, Whataburger stated, “Each B.O.B. is as unique as the Bob who orders it — so make it your own by swapping the American cheese for Monterey Jack or add an extra kick by ordering it Ranchero Style. No matter how you like your B.O.B., Whataburger will make it just like you like it, Bob.”

All customers need to do to get their free BOB is purchase a coffee (hot or iced), according to the press release. And you don’t have to be named Bob to get the promotion! Both Bobs and honorary Bobs can take advantage of this deal from 11 p.m. on Oct. 9 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 10 by ordering online at whataburger.com or placing their purchase via the app.

Whataburger Franchisee Branches Out

Last week, a franchisee of the growing fast-food chain announced it would be branching out by partnering with Layne’s Chicken Fingers.

Although the Thomas family has operated 23 Whataburger locations in Texas for many years, they just announced in July that they would be teaming up with Layne’s Chicken Fingers to create 25 sites in East Texas.

Taylor Thomas, who was interviewed by Nation’s Restaurant News, revealed how his father obtained his first franchise location in 1989. In 2015, Thomas assumed control of his family’s business after earning his degree.

“I was having lunch with our real estate guy, and I’m telling him we’re trying to find the right fit for us, and nothing would stick,” he told the outlet. “And then he said, ‘What about Layne’s?’ I didn’t even know what Layne’s was, to be honest, but he had a contact and we got in touch with them.”

Thomas continued, “It was obvious right from the beginning how family-oriented it all was, and how excited everybody was in the Layne’s community, and how they were open to ideas and wanted to push the brand forward. Normally, franchises don’t really want your input. But we’re not here to work for somebody: we want to work with somebody. And Layne’s had all of that… It just felt like a real tight family atmosphere.”

Though he has signed this deal with Layne’s Chicken Fingers, Thomas noted that he has “zero desire to get away from being a Whataburger family.”

He added, “We hope there’s more opportunities down the road with Whataburger too. We want to continue to grow as a company. We understand [there are] going to be some challenges involved with that, but we feel confident we can work through it with both brands.”
