White Castle Enters the Fast-Food Wars With Slashed Burger Prices
August 9, 2024
White Castle has come out of left field to enter the fast-food wars, with the Ohio-based chain announcing that it is offering a discount on its pack of cheese sliders.
FOX Business reports that sacks of 10 cheese sliders are available for $7.99, or less than 80 cents each, for a short period of time. More than a dozen years ago, in 2011, was the last time patrons could have a White Castle burger at that cost.
But White Castle pointed out that in New York and New Jersey, the 10-burger package costs $8.99, a $1 higher. The business did note that the cost of the jumbo bag of sliders is still cheaper than the price of an individual combination meal at most fast-food outlets.
“Families everywhere are tired of almost needing a small loan when they go out for fast food, and we know these days our customers want to make every penny count,” White Castle Vice President Jamie Richardson said in a statement accompanying the announcement.
In a separate statement, Richardson told FOX Business, “As consumers everywhere are pinching pennies and making leftovers last longer, White Castle knows we need to give them what they crave — great food at a great price.”
White Castle is the latest in a long line of national chains that have introduced value meals for their patrons, including the fast-food behemoths McDonald’s and Taco Bell, which is owned by Yum! Brands.
Wendy’s is also proving to be a strong contender in the fast-food wars. Last month, the chain announced that it was offering a $1 Honey Buddy for a limited time.
At participating locations, the discounted sandwich will only be available for a brief period. The well-known fast-food business faced criticism for its announcement on dynamic pricing, which led to the subsequent announcement.
Every week during breakfast hours, Wendy’s will be giving away $1 Honey Buddies until Monday, Sept. 30. This offer seeks to enhance Monday morning breakfasts, or what Wendy’s calls “Unhappy Hour.”
Customers must select the “$1 breakfast sandwich with any purchase” offer from the “offers” menu before adding a $1 Honey Buddy and another item to their cart. Customers can take advantage of the discount on in-person or mobile orders placed during breakfast hours by scanning the in-app offer.
