Why are department stores missing out on Halloween?
October 28, 2016
As the popularity of Halloween rises and more adults decide kids are having too much fun without them, specialty retailers have seen a boon in sales. According to NRF, Halloween-related sales will reach $8.4 billion this year, more than doubling the $3.3 billion in sales during 2005. And yet, department stores and apparel chains might give one the impression they think they are above stocking goofy costumes. Less than 24 percent of consumers answering NRF’s survey said they plan to shop at a department store and only 10.2 percent at a fashion store.
