Mom and pop cry foul in trademark dispute with Nestle

The Herbivirous Butcher in Minneapolis, billed as the first meat-free market in the U.S., has been using the phrase “vegan butcher” on its labels and in its marketing since 2017. The company tried to trademark the phrase but was denied since it was determined to be “merely descriptive” under federal law. Now, as it turns out, Nestle has received approval for a trademark on the same phrase.
