Treasury Secretary cites need to ‘understand deeply’ what happened to GameStop’s stock
February 4, 2021
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that she and federal financial market regulators need to better understand what happened to the stock prices at GameStop and other companies before deciding whether to take action of some sort. In her first interview since being confirmed as the head of treasury, Ms. Yellen also reinforced the need to go big on the COVID-19 stimulus package being considered by members of Congress. “We never had anything so large even during the great recession. We need to make sure people have jobs, if they don’t have jobs, that they’re supported,” she said.
