Starbucks ending use of disposable cups in South Korea

April 6, 2021

Starbucks announced that it will discontinue single-use cups in its stores in South Korea by 2025. The coffee giant plans to begin rolling out a “cup circularity program” in some locations in the Asian nation by this summer. Customers will pay a deposit that will be refunded when the cups are returned and scanned at contactless kiosks located in participating Starbucks. “We are excited to leverage the learnings from this initiative to drive meaningful change in our stores and inform future innovation on a regional and global scale,” said Sara Trilling, president of Starbucks Asia Pacific.
