Pier 1 Imports to shutter 450 stores

Pier 1 Imports will close around 450 stores, just under half its total in the U.S. and Canada, as the struggling retailer seeks a strategy to help it compete against online and big box rivals. Shares of Pier 1 Imports fell 17 percent in trading yesterday as the company also announced plans to close some distribution centers and lay off employees.
